ROCHESTER, NY -- The Rochester Rhinos, winless in four of their last five matches, welcomed the Carolina RailHawks to Marina Auto Stadium on Saturday night, and played to a 0-0 draw on night.

Neither team generated any significant scoring opportunities through the first 30 minutes of play with the exception of the RailHawks Greg Richardson, who had an opportunity from 18 yards in the 27th minute, but whistled his shot wide of the Rochester goal.

The Rhinos seemed to have the better of it during the first half of action, outshooting Carolina 6-1, but neither team was persistent enough to threaten offensively.

The second half saw both teams approach each other with caution. In the 63rd the Rhinos pressure began to generate some momentum as the RailHawks had difficulty with it. Warren Ukah’s shot made Caleb Patterson take notice as he bobbled the initial save, leading to a Rhino corner kick. On the ensuing corner Kenney Bertz managed to get a head on the ball, but couldn’t beat Patterson.

The 70th minute saw a long ball played by Tim Melia headed down by Ukah to Johnny Menyongar. Menyongar’s blast froze Patterson, who appeared to be screened by the shot but watched as it missed wide. Continuing to apply pressure Danny Earls pushing down the right side crossed a ball to Andrew Gregor who was beaten to the ball by Patterson.

Neither team could muster a goal during regulation, leaving the game to end in a scoreless draw. The tie sends the Rhinos to 9-8-7 and they remain five points ahead of Montreal for fifth place in the table.

Rochester will hit the road beginning on Saturday to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps with kickoff slated for 10:00 p.m. The club will remain on the road for matches against Portland (9/3), Puerto Rico (9/6) and Miami FC (9/8) before returning home to battle Miami on September 13.
