TAMPA, FL -- Nicholas Murray of the Tampa Tribune confirmed Tuesday that the expansion Tampa Bay Rowdies have selected Paul Dalglish as its head coach as it continues preparations for the 2010 season.

Rowdies President and CEO Andrew Nestor said after a long process, the club was delighted to have Dalglish installed as the side approaches its first season in the United Soccer League's First Division.

"I'm very excited," Nestor said "Myself and everyone in our organization really think that Paul is the right man for the job. He's very ambitious, and I can see already from one week of getting rolling just everything he's working on lining up for the club, and going through our player database and identifying players, he's going to be a great fit for the organization. I think he and Perry (Van Der Beck) will work very well and compliment each other very well, so I think we've put together, as far as the management of our soccer staff, just a great team there with Paul and with Perry."

The 32-year-old Dalglish, has had a playing career that spanned the Atlantic Ocean with clubs such as Newcastle United in England and Major League Soccer's Houston Dynamo.

Dalglish grew up around the game as the son of Liverpool and Scotland playing legend Kenny Dalglish. His father also went on to have an illustrious managerial career, winning the English League Championship, the current equivalent of the English Premier League, three times with Liverpool and winning the Premier League title as manager of Blackburn Rovers.
