Silverbacks re-sign duo
Finalists retain McManus and Buete through 2010

ATLANTA, GA -- The Atlanta Silverbacks announced Scott Buete and Tony McManus have agreed to terms that will see the two central midfielders in red and black for the next three seasons.

Buete signed a new contract with the Silverbacks after his original contract expired following the 2007 season. McManus signed a two-year extension to his current contract that was originally set to expire following the 2008 season. Both players will be under contract with the Atlanta Silverbacks through the 2010 season.

McManus and Buete were key in Atlanta run to USL-1 Final"They were both an integral part of our success in the 2007 season and we’re excited they decided to remain with the team for another three years," commented Head Coach Jason Smith.

Buete and McManus spent most of the season making key defensive stops and building the offense from the two central midfield positions. They helped lead the Silverbacks to the franchise’s most successful season-to-date, including an appearance in the USL Championship and a trip to the third round of the U.S. Open Cup.

Buete, a native of Maryland, played in 35 games for the Silverbacks in the 2007 season - recording two goals and one assist in his 3,074 minutes of playing time (second most on the team for minutes played). Buete earned USL Team of the Week honors once during the season. He joined the Silverbacks for the 2006 season after playing with MLS side, the Chicago Fire. He spent his collegiate career at the University of Maryland.

McManus, a native of Tennessee, played in 30 games for the Silverbacks in the 2007 season - recording four goals and one assist in his 2,521 minutes of playing time. McManus suffered a season-ending injury in the Silverbacks’ first playoff match against the Rochester Raging Rhinos on September 14. McManus earned USL Team of the Week honors twice during the 2007 season. He joined the Silverbacks for the 2005 season after playing with the Virginia Beach Mariners and MLS side, the Chicago Fire. He spent his collegiate career at the University of Alabama - Birmingham.

SILVERBACKS STARS HELP HONOR MLS LEGEND MARCO ETCHEVERRY

Silverbacks’ midfielder Rodrigo Rios and assistant coach Alex Pineda-Chacon played in a tribute match for former D.C. United midfielder, Marco Etcheverry. Etcheverry and players from the D.C. United 1997 MLS Championship squad took on the Hollywood United squad that included Rios, Pineda-Chacon, former MLS stars as well as a few celebrities. The match took place on October 15 in Washington, DC; the ’97 championship DC United side beat the Hollywood United side 2-1.
