CHARLESTON, SC -- The Charleston Battery has signed Canadian national team defender Marco Reda for the 2008 USL First Division season. Reda, 6-2, 180 lbs., 30 yrs comes to the Battery from Major League Soccer’s Toronto F.C. Reda has won seven caps for Canada and played in the 1-0 win versus Martinique in January. In addition to Toronto F.C. Reda has also played for Aalborg (Denmark), Sogndal Fotball Club (Norway) and the Toronto Lynx (USL First Division); Reda signs pending USSF approval and international clearance.

A native of Woodbridge, Ontario, Reda was an original member of Toronto F.C. in 2007, the club’s inaugural season but struggled with injury and was limited to 8 games.
Prior to joining Toronto F.C. Reda played for Sogndal Fotball Club of Norway in 2006. It was his second spell with the Club, Reda also played for Sogndal 2002-2004; in all Reda played 101 games scoring 7 goals.
Reda was a member of Danish Superliga side, Aalborg from 2004 – 2005, scoring 1 goal in 21 appearances. Reda began his pro career in the USL First Division with the Toronto Lynx (1998 – 2002), he played 82 games with the Lynx. Before turning pro Reda attended Winthrop University.
Battery players complete Beep Test
The Charleston Battery players completed the “Beep Test” Tuesday morning at the Charleston Battery Practice Facility on Daniel Island. Midfielder Darren Spicer scored highest registering a mark of 15.3 on the multi-stage fitness test. Pre-season continues with two-a-day training sessions through this week; the team’s first scheduled match is a scrimmage versus the College of Charleston at Patriots Point on March 12.

Tickets for the 2008 edition of the Carolina Challenge Cup are on sale now; Buy Tickets fans can purchase tickets for each doubleheader or for the six match series. Tickets for single doubleheaders (includes two games) are priced at $25 Club / Box & $15 bleacher. Series tickets (includes all six games) are also available for $50 Club / Box and $35 Bleacher. The tournament takes place at Blackbaud Stadium March 15, 19 & 22, and features Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC, the San Jose Earthquakes and the USL1 Charleston Battery.
