CARY, NC -- The Carolina RailHawks have come to terms with Honduran native defender Richard Perdomo. He joins the RailHawks from Mercer University where he was captain of the Bears his junior and senior year tallying six shots in 31 games played. Prior to transferring to Mercer University, Perdomo was a star defender at Creighton where he was named to the Top Drawer National Team of the Week in October 2005, his sophomore year.
“Richard Perdomo is a right center back who plays like Puyol or Cannavaro,” said RailHawks Head Coach Scott Schweitzer. “He makes up for his smaller stature with speed and intelligence. He’s a versatile player who brings international flare and professionalism.”
Perdomo is also on the radar screen of the Honduran Soccer Federation having trained with the Honduran National Team during the Gold Cup in Miami in 2005. He just recently won the Copa Latina with a team owned by the managers of the Honduran U-23 team and hopes to get called up in the next round of Olympic qualifiers should Honduras advance.
“I am really excited to be a part of the Carolina RailHawks family,” Perdomo said. “I am anxious to meet the guys, get the season started, and work hard to be able to contribute to the team and make a run at the USL Championship. I have heard nothing but great things about the RailHawks organization, coaches, and fans. I am looking forward to getting my professional career started here in North Carolina and be a part of this great community and family.”
