ST PAUL, MN -- The Minnesota Thunder announced that Tighe Dombrowski has agreed to a one year contract with a two year option that could keep him in Minnesota through 2010. Dombrowski returns to the Thunder after playing two years for IK Sirius in Sweden.
Dombrowski joined the Thunder during the 2005 season on loan from the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer in which he played in 12 league games and was a significant role in the Thunder’s memorable US Open Cup Semifinal run.
Dombrowski, 5’8, 155, is from West Allis, Wisconsin and is the younger brother of former Thunder player Chad Dombrowski. Dombrowski played both in defense and in the center of midfield for IK Sirius.
Dombrowski played four years at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee from 2000-2003. He was named an honorable mention All-American in 2003. He was drafted 50th by the San Jose Earthquakes in the 2004 MLS Superdraft.
In 2006 he left MLS and joined Superettan side IK Sirius where he played 55 out of a possible 58 games over two seasons and scored six goals. In 2007 Dombrowski scored what was one of the goals of the year in the Superettan. The link to that goal can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PdFrMb_jdU8
“Tighe brings us versatility, toughness and professionalism,” said Thunder head coach Amos Magee. “He was great for us in 2005 and I expect that with his improvement over the past two years, he will be an impact player for the Thunder this season. His mentality is second to none and his quiet leadership will go a long way towards getting us better.”
The Minnesota Thunder will open its home season on Sunday, May 4 at James Griffin Stadium against the Rochester Raging Rhinos at 5:05 p.m. Season tickets are currently on sale by visiting www.mnthunder.com or by calling 651.917.8326.
