CARY, NC -- The Carolina RailHawks announced today they have reached an agreement with Brian Levey to be the second goalkeeper for the 2008 season. Levey was drafted by the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2007 with the sixth overall pick but spent the 2007 season with the New Hampshire Phantoms of the USL Second Division.

While with the Phantoms, he recorded 3 shutouts and 70 saves in 16 games played garnering Goalkeeper of the Week honors in Week Four of the USL-2 season.

“Brian Levey is very big in stature,” said RailHawks Head Coach Scott Schweitzer. “He will give us a different look between the goal posts and will be competing all season for a starting spot on the roster. Both goalkeepers will make each other better because of their differences in game play.”

Levey played collegiately at the University of New Hampshire where he still holds the records for shutouts and goals against average. Overall, between 2003 and 2006 levey started 63 of the 64 games he played in recording a 0.74 goals against average with 247 saves and 27 shutouts.

“I'm extremely excited to be signed with such a young and class organization as the RailHawks,” said Brian Levey. “I feel they have the resources necessary to be successful on and off the field. After meeting most of the coaching staff at the open tryouts in February, I recognize that my goalkeeper abilities will be able to be developed and brightened and I look forward to starting a successful campaign towards a USL-1 championship.”

The Carolina RailHawks men’s professional team kicks off its 2008 campaign at WakeMed Soccer Park with a highly-anticipated pre-season match against Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls on March 28th at 7:30 PM.
