This preseason Chevalier has played in all three of the Silverbacks preseason scrimmages as a substitute holding midfielder.

“Greg is an incredibly hard working, versatile player who will give us depth both in the midfield and in the back,” said Smith. “After being away from the game for a year, he has come back in the best form of his career.”

Monteiro joins the Silverbacks after a two-year stint in Major League Soccer. He began training with the Silverbacks on Monday.

A native of Luanda, Angola, he came to the U.S. at age 14 to attend school in Houston, Texas. At UAB Monteiro led the Blazers in goals in 2006 with 14, earning him All-Midwest Rregion Second-Team honors. He currently sits second in career goals (34) on the UAB scoring list.

In other roster moves, the club released Tweety Walters, Anthony Wolfe, and Angel Rivillo. Walters had been training with the club but could not come to terms.
