MIAMI, FL -- Following a preseason 2-0 victory over Barry University, Miami FC announced the addition of former Harbour View striker Sean Barrett, who also played collegiately at Florida International University and the University of Rhode Island.
Miami FC concluded its preseason schedule on Tuesday with a conclusive 2-0 shutout over Barry University. The club continues to remain undefeated in all of its preseason matches, and will be looking to build upon that momentum come this Saturday, April 12; when they will take on the Charleston Battery to open up the 2008 season.
Miami FC's efforts against Barry University were spearheaded by forward Sean Barrett, who scored one goal in each half. Barrett has been vying for a spot with squad since the team's open tryouts held back in January/February; however as of Wednesday that uncertainty can be laid to rest as his spot on the roster became official.
"This is a player who has exemplified outstanding persistence in trying to prove himself as a player," head coach Zinho commented on the matter. "It is a going joke between us that I told him: 'you will need to kill a lion every day,' and apparently he took me seriously."
Barrett also scored the game winning goal back on April 5 versus Nova Southeastern University, bringing his total amount of goals to 3 in the month of April. Listed officially at 6'4" and 205 lbs, the Kingston native will bring an enormously imposing physical presence to the box, creating mismatches for the majority of Miami FC's opponents.
His previous clubs include Harbour View FC (coincidently where teammate Sean Fraser spent time), as well as Florida International University, and the University of Rhode Island.
Miami FC will resume competition for the 2008 regular season on Saturday, April 12th, at Tropical Park Stadium against the Charleston Battery at 7:30 p.m. Season tickets are currently on sale by visiting www.miamifc.com or by calling 305-728-2612. Miami FC concluyó su calendario de pretemporada el pasado martes con un marcador de 2-0 contra la Universidad Barry. El equipo continúa invicto en todos sus partidos de pretemporada y estará tratando de mantener ese ímpetu para éste sábado 12 de abril cuando jueguen contra el Charleston Battery en la apertura de temporada del 2008.
Los esfuerzos del Miami FC contra la Universidad Barry, estuvieron encabezados por el delantero Sean Barrett quien anotó un gol en cada mitad del partido. Barrett ha estado compitiendo para obtener un lugar en el equipo desde que comenzaron las pruebas el pasado enero y febrero. Sin embargo, el miércoles ésta incertidumbre se pudo dejar atrás ya que su lugar en la lista de jugadores para ésta temporada se hizo oficial.
“Este es un jugador que ha ejemplificado una persistencia excepcional en tratar de probarse a si mismo como jugador,” el entrenador Zinho comentó al respecto. “Le dije un refrán entre nosotros: ‘tu necesitas matar un león todos los días’ y por lo visto, se lo tomó muy en serio.”
Barrett también anotó el gol ganador el pasado 5 de abril contra la Universidad Nova Southwestern, lo que hizo que terminara el mes de abril con un total de 3 goles anotados. El joven de 6’4’’ y 205lbs y nativo de Kingston, Jamaica, brindará una gran e imponente presencia física al campo, siendo una desventaja para la mayoría de los oponentes del Miami FC.
Entre los equipos en los que ha jugado se encuentran el Harbor View FC (en donde por coincidencia, fue compañero de Sean Fraser) así como en la Universidad Internacional de Florida (FIU) y la Universidad de Rhode Island.
