Miami FC officially welcomed today three new players to its roster for the remainder of the 2008 season. The signings included two defenders and a goalkeeper; likely to strengthen the team’s defense debilitated by recent injuries. Perhaps the most significant signing of the trio is defender Avery John, the Trinidad and Tobago National who spent the last four years playing for the New England Revolution of MLS.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced the signing of former J-League and FIFA World Cup midfielder Takashi Hirano. Hirano has agreed to a one-year contract, plus an option. The midfielder won the Emperor’s Cup competition with Nagoya in both the 1995 and 1999 seasons, and the Japanese Super Cup in 1996. In 1997, Hirano was part of the Grampus side that reached the final of the Asian Cup Winners Cup.
RailHawks sign Honduran Perdomo
The Carolina RailHawks have come to terms with Honduran native defender Richard Perdomo. He joins the RailHawks from Mercer University where he was captain of the Bears his junior and senior year tallying six shots in 31 games played. Perdomo is also on the radar screen of the Honduran Soccer Federation having trained with the Honduran National Team during the Gold Cup in Miami in 2005.

The Charleston Battery has signed Canadian national team defender Marco Reda for the 2008 USL First Division season. Reda comes to the Battery from MLS’s Toronto F.C. Reda has won seven caps for Canada and played in the 1-0 win versus Martinique in January. In addition to Toronto F.C. Reda has also played for Aalborg (Denmark), Sogndal Fotball Club (Norway) and the Toronto Lynx (USL-1). Reda signs pending USSF approval and international clearance.

Thunder, Silverbacks swap players
The Minnesota Thunder and Atlanta Silverbacks announced the trade of Dayton O’Brien from the Silverbacks to the Thunder for midfielder Ansu Toure. The player-for-player trade was the first for the Thunder in recent years and has added O'Brien to the Thunder through at least 2008. The trade will see Toure under contract with the Silverbacks through the 2008 season.
Rhinos re-sign Harrison
The Rochester Raging Rhinos announced today that the team has re-signed goalkeeper Chase Harrison to a one-year deal with an option for the 2009 season.

Midfielder Stephen Armstrong has agreed to terms with the Charleston Battery and will return for the 2008 and 2009 USL First Division seasons. Armstrong enjoyed a stellar year with the Battery in 2007, leading the team with 11 goals and 2 assists for a total of 24 points; following the season Armstrong was named to the USL First Division All-League First Team.

Gjertsen signs two-year deal to remain with Impact
The Montreal Impact announced, Tuesday, that midfielder Joey Gjertsen accepted a two-year deal with the team. Gjertsen, a 25-year old American, was acquired from the Vancouver Whitecaps with midfielder David Testo before the July 30 roster freeze. Last year, he played a total of 29 games (2111 minutes) with Vancouver and Montreal, tallying three goals and six assists for 12 points.

Impact re-sign Jordan
Goalkeeper on for 2008 plus option year
The Montreal Impact announced, Thursday, that goalkeeper Matt Jordan will be back with Montreal in 2008, after having accepted a one-year agreement plus an option year. In his first season, The former MLS netminder tallied 10 wins and 11 shutouts, and his 0.649 goals against average was the second best in the league.
Rhinos re-sign Craft, Burns
The Rochester Raging Rhinos announced today that the team has re-signed veteran defender/midfielder Nate Craft to a two-year deal and midfielder Kevin Burns to a one-year deal. Both signings are pending approval from both the United Soccer Leagues and U.S. Soccer.
Timbers ink Jordan for two more
The Portland Timbers have signed forward Bryan Jordan to a new two-year contract, it was announced. As a rookie, Jordan is the Timbers’ second leading scorer this season. In addition to Jordan, who played his collegiate soccer career at Oregon State University, defender Cameron Knowles, midfielders Andrew Gregor, Lawrence Olum, Luke Kreamalmeyer, and forward Chris Bagley are all under contract for the Timbers’ 2008 season.
10 returning for Rhinos
The Rochester Raging Rhinos announced that the team will return 10 members of its 2007 roster. Goalkeeper Scott Vallow; defenders Scott Palguta, Kenney Bertz, Tenywa Bonseu, Chris Aloisi, Jason Perry and Kevin Novak; midfielders Johnny Menyongar and John Ball; and forward Matthew Delicâte will all return to the Rhinos.
